NGC 784 is a nearly edge-on barred spiral galaxy in Triangulum.  I found precious few observations of this galaxy, even though it appears in Tom Polakis' list of Bright Autumn Edge-On Galaxies

In my 18-inch f/4.5 I noted that NGC 784 "appeared fairly large and very diffuse.  Similar to IC 127, but larger and brighter."  At 95x it was visible as a diffuse, elongated rectangle.  At 260x it nearly filled the field of view.  What is seen at the eyepiece is the brighter inner portion.  The presence of bright knots near the ends result in the appearance of cut off ends, particularly when viewed directly.  This leads to the interesting illusion of a rectangular-shaped galaxy.

The field in an 6-inch f/8 at 50x.  North is down and east is to the right.
