Download
SkyTools Version 1.7a Update (SkyToolsV17a.exe, 3.0MB)
Download
Skytools Version 1.7a Update as three files that will fit on
floppy disks
Installation Instructions
(1) Make certain that neither
SkyTools nor the SkyTools Supplemental Database Editor is
running.
(2) Make certain that the
SkyToolsV17a.exe file is not in your SkyTools folder. If it is,
move it to a temporary folder before continuing.
(3) Start the update program
(SkyToolsV17a.exe) by double clicking on it. This program will
extract the update files and start the update process.
(4) Make sure that the install
program places the files into the correct SkyTools folder. If
you installed SkyTools in a folder other than the default, press
the Browse button and select the correct path to the
SkyTools folder.
(5) The installation program
will install a program called updater.exe which will update your
files to be compatible with version 1.7a. This program will be
automatically started when you start SkyTools or the
Supplemental Database Editor. It should report a successful
update. It is normal for the update to report "could
not update log files" if there are no log entries.
(6) Verify the installation. The
program will run as before, except the intro screen will display
version 1.7a. You can also view the version by clicking on the
galaxy background at the top of the planning window.
Bugs Fixed in Version 1.7a
(1) The MPC began adopting some
former minor planet designations for comets when these minor
planets were determined to be comets instead. These
designations were longer than the space alloted in the comet
database, causing corruption of the supplemental comet database.
This bug has now been fixed in this version.
(2) A minor problem was found
that could result in the non-display of the logbook icon for
objects in an observing list under certain conditions.
Bugs Fixed in Version 1.7
(1) A problem has been fixed
that could confuse log data when the Log Browser was opened,
closed, and the log entry currently displayed was subsequently
saved or edited.
(2) A file missing from the new
SkyTools 1.6 CDROM is added. Without this file users will
find that references to common star names will not work.
(3) A few minor cosmetic
problems related to using SkyTools under Windows XP have been
fixed.
