NGC 4462

For telescopes 8" or larger

NGC 4462 (MCG -4-30-2, ESO 506 13, PGC 41150) is a 12.8 magnitude, nearly face-on spiral galaxy which subtends 3.2' x 1.1'. It lies some 70 million light years distant. This is a nice little spiral that lies way off the beaten path.

I observed NGC 4462 with my 18-inch Dob in March 2000. Here are my notes from that session:

This galaxy appeared as a long, thin streak with a bright, non-stellar core. It was visible, but not all that obvious at 82x.

This is the view of the field in a 8-inch at 65x. North is down and east is to the right.

This image from the DSS shows a 20' x 20' field around the galaxy. North is down and
