Common PC-Sky
Problems & Solutions
1. At startup PC-Sky exits
abruptly or displays an error message
Download
the PC-Sky V1.1.3 patch.
2. Windows reports not enough
memory, or program exits abruptly when you view the sky
This is a common problem with
misconfigured windows 9x/ME systems. Remove the CD-ROM drivers
from your config.sys file. Windows 95/98 supplies access to the
CD-ROM for DOS programs so this driver is not needed and wastes
valuable DOS memory. Note that this problem has nothing to do
with the amount of RAM installed in your system.
If the problem persists, check
your config.sys and autotexec.bat files for other unnecessary
drivers and try removing them. Note that you should only do this
for windows 95 or later. Make a backup of these files before you
make any changes!
If the problem still persists
you can run PC-Sky from windows 95/98 in MS-DOS mode. This
method will shut down windows and start PC-Sky. Windows will be
restarted when PC-Sky terminates. Follow these steps to start
PC-Sky in MS-DOS mode:
- Find the program file (sky.exe)
or shortcut and right-click on it
- Select Properties
- Click on the Program
tab
- Click on the Advanced
button
- Check MS-DOS mode
- Make sure Warn before
entering MS-DOS is checked
- Click OK
In addition you may need to specify
a new MS-DOS configuration. This is a selection on the above
dialog. Once selected, remove any suspicious or unnessary lines
from both the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files listed in the
dialog.
3. Windows installation does
not finish properly
There have been some problems
with truncated files on diskette 1. If PC-Sky will not install
properly, try downloading the contents of the first PC-Sky
diskette from here.
Use a standard unzip program to
extract the files in a temporary folder. Copy the contents of
diskette 2 to this same folder. Run the "setup.exe"
program and follow the installation instructions.
