  • SkyTools 2.2h update download

  • Import 2 -- SkyTools 1.x to SkyTools 2 Import Utility.  This utility program imports your observing locations, optical instruments, observing lists and logs from SkyTools 1.x for use with SkyTools 2.

  • SkyTools 2 Observing lists and User Data.  Observing lists and other data can be downloaded directly from SkyTools 2 via the Import tab of the Data Manager.  This page is for those who need to download the files and deliver them to a computer that is not connected to the Internet.

SkyTools 1.x Downloads

  • SkyTools V1.7 Update . This update supersedes all previous versions of SkyTools 1.x and fixes bugs related to printing (using certain printers) and missing log entries.
  • The SkyTools 1.x Database Transfer Wizard is a utility program that will allow you to transfer all or part of the SkyTools data to your hard drive, should you wish to do so.  Note: those who received the SkyTools version 1.6 CDROM already have this utility installed.
  • SkyTools 1.x Observing lists for import. Lists include the most recent crop of comets, the Herschel objects, Caldwell catalog, Hickson galaxy groups, and objects taken from the pages of Sky & Telescope and Astronomy magazines. Note that SkyTools observing lists are not catalogs in themselves, but rather groupings of objects from the SkyTools database that you may want to observe. Don't forget that with SkyTools you can make your own custom observing lists with the Database Power Search Tool!

SkyTools Data Downloads

  • Current orbital elements for comets and minor planets in SkyTools format from CBAT and the IAU Minor Planet Center. Save the file(s) to your hard drive and use the SkyTools Supplemental Database Editor Import function to read the data. Note that the comet data at this site supplies default values for the comet coma diameters rather than actual values. See the link below for comet orbital elements with current coma diameters and updated magnitude parameters, or simply download the current comet observing list above.
  • Current orbital elements for all known minor planets from Edward Bowell at Lowell Observatory.  This is a very large file!  Save the astorb.dat file to your hard drive and use the SkyTools Supplemental Database Editor Import function to read the data.  Select E. Bowell's astrod.dat as the file format.

Note: the comet magnitudes computed via the orbital elements circulated by CBAT are often grossly in error. For this reason it is often important to check the current observed magnitude rather than that predicted. See the Recent Comet Brightness Estimates page for the most recent observations. For the most up-to-date comet data download our current comets observing list.
